Teije van Vliet, better known as Lenzman, took his time with his first full-length album, ‘Looking at the Stars’. On the one hand, it’s hard to believe it hasn’t come sooner – after all, with a career that dates back to 2007, the Dutch drum’n’bass DJ and producer could always be counted on to crank out remixes and singles. On the other hand, he spent two years crafting and perfecting the LP – and it shows. Released last June, ‘Looking at the Stars’ is a testament to his tremendous talent; featuring collaborations with Dan Stezo, Martyna Baker and Steo, the record is dynamic, showcasing his love for ’90s hip hop, soul and liquid funk. Against the genre norm, he avoided work with producers and enlisted only instrumentalist and vocalist contributions for the 15-track album. As a result, ‘Looking at the Stars’ is honest and personal; Lenzman stays true to his signature sound and style but at the same time, explores and pushes the envelope on what he does best. For his debut show in KL, supporting acts for the night are DJ Low, Dr Med and Nesh MC.
