The King of Fruits may not be everyone’s favourite, but those who love it can get a little too enthusiastic over the intensely pungent and bittersweet fruit, especially when peak durian season hits. When that time comes, head to these places to get your durian fix – just make sure you’ve stocked up enough mouthwash at home.

DurianMan
  • Restaurants
  • SS2

It’s impossible to miss this durian stall if you’re driving by the SS2 neighbourhood – it’s arguably one of the largest and most organised, complete with online delivery services, its own collection of YouTube videos, and vacuum packaging services to make the fruit safe enough for air travel.

On good bumper seasons, expect the place to be crowded with folks going for their durian buffets – all-you-can-eat feasts of D10, D13 and D101 variants. The shop also has an exhaustive list of other types, including D2, Musang King, Udang Merah and Tracka.

Donald's Durian
  • Restaurants
  • Hawker
  • Petaling Jaya

If feasting on quality durian in a simple, no-frills space is your idea of fun, head to Donald’s Durian. Here, you’ll find durians that range from the pricey Musang King to the more affordable kampung durian, which can go for about RM15 a kilogramme. Aside from their main outlet in SS2, Donald’s Durian also has a stall in Jalan Harapan, Section 19, which opens from 1.30pm to 11pm.

Durian King TTDI
  • Restaurants
  • TTDI

Located in the carpark lot adjacent to the TTDI market, Durian King is where you’ll find large crowds when peak season hits. Prices here are on par with current market prices, and there’s an added guarantee of quality – those that don’t make the grade are put aside with minimal fuss, and the staffers are knowledgeable enough to make a recommendation.

Aside from durians, the shop is also known for their durian cendol – a sizeable bowl of the icy dessert topped with durian flesh. Fresh coconut water is readily available if the heat gets to you.

When it comes to getting your durian fix in Subang, point your GPS to Say Heng Durian Stall in USJ14. With more than 20 years in the business, they've sold plenty of Raja Kunyit, D24, XO, Tracka, Udang Merah and more, all with a warm smile (which explains the regular crowds swooping in during the weekends for durian parties). You’ll know you’re at the right place when you see the open-air stall teeming with the thorny fruits opposite Petronas USJ14 and the nearby Sekolah Wawasan.

USJ Pedak 11 & 12, Kiosk USJ 14, USJ14, Subang Jaya (012 618 7770). Daily, 12noon-12midnight.
