Soufflés can be difficult to make - from getting the texture just fluffy enough or whether the final product falls flat upon coming out of the oven, these baked egg dishes when done right are a sweet treat. Here we have a list of places whose soufflés rise to the occasion.

Neighbour's Coffee Bar

This coffee bar was the first to ride the fuwa fuwa (fluffy / light in Japanese) pancake trend with gusto. The highlight of the menu is obviously their soufflé pancakes – seriously light and airy, served with whipped cream. You can also have them with seasonal fruit or soft-serve ice cream. These pancakes need to be eaten on the double (not a problem, we can assure you!), as they are perfect hot and may start to deflate if you spend too much time taking photos for your IG. The café itself is minimalistic and bright, and they also serve great coffee plus breakfast and brunch options. But really you come here for the fluffy goodness of those pancakes.

Hidden on the second floor of accessible via a side entrance, the quirkily named Wild Sheep Chase is all white walls and pale wooden furniture. Their specialty are proper vanilla soufflés served with a choice of syrup (orange, Osmanthus, salted caramel, maples) or sorbet (grapefruit, honeydew calamansi). There is also a seasonal soufflé that you can ask about, and a savoury cheese option served with a salad. The menu is concise, food presentation is very pretty, and they focus on they do best – airy, delicate soufflés that must be eaten fresh out of the oven.

Hoshino Coffee Malaysia

Hoshino Coffee Malaysia is a Japanese coffee chain focusing on Japanese fusion food, dessert and good coffee, especially their hand-dripped version. Their made-to-order soufflés are the main attraction, and only use four ingredients – eggs, flour, sugar and custard. The recipe has been perfected here as proven by the height of our soufflés when they arrived. Choose from the popular vanilla flavoured soufflé with chocolate or custard sauce, or the matcha version. There’s also the Fuwa-Fuwa pancakes with maple syrup for the purists.

Soufflé Pancake & Dessert Cafe

As the name suggests, an array of soufflé pancakes awaits at this cosy café in Puchong. The soufflé pancakes here come with different toppings and flavours including caramelised bananas, matcha and red bean, mango, strawberry and more. As airy as they seem, the texture of the pancakes here is slightly denser than the norm so come hungry. You can’t go wrong with their classic version served with maple syrup and a good dollop of butter. There are other desserts as well like waffles and kakigōri to indulge in.

The first thing you’ll notice is the prancing wooden stag at the entrance, which gives you a hint of the interesting décor of this café including the shipping container transformed into a dining area. The menu here is extensive but we came for the soufflé pancakes and these are served only on weekdays from 2-7pm. There may be only two choices here – Berry-berry served with vanilla ice cream, crème Anglaise, whipped cream, strawberries and blueberries; and Orange Caramel served with fresh oranges, coffee caramel sauce, whipped cream and vanilla ice cream – but they are good and so worth the calorie overload!
