French, Italian and Spanish flavours compete for your attention with the launch of Nizza’s new menu

Mention the Mediterranean and the first thing that comes to mind is the incredible coast and the countries that surround this famous body of water. A close second is the incredible array of cuisines using regional ingredients grown and found in sun-kissed lands. To get a bit of that right here in KL, Nizza is Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara’s specialty French-Mediterranean restaurant and is a great option for relaxing dinners.

The restaurant offers indoor and alfresco seating. Enjoy balmy evenings at the outdoor bar near the pool with a distinctive view – a pleasant change from the normal cityscape. Then move on to dinner. The restaurant has recently launched an exciting new menu bursting with the fresh flavours and tastes of the Mediterranean countries.

Before eating, cocktails are in order. The signature selection includes the popular Luxe Tropicale (with its base of champagne and hints of vanilla), Malayan Sling (Opihr Spiced Gin, Fernet-Branca, rose pandan flavour, pineapple reduction, fresh lime and a splash of soda), Jalisco Cooler (1800 Reposado, pink grapefruit juice, lime juice, wild honey and soda water) and Royale Fizz (absinthe, fresh lime juice, orgeat syrup, orange blossom water, half & half egg white, champagne and sparkling water).

To accompany these, a round of tapas begins your culinary journey. We suggest the Mejillones En Escabeche (fresh mussels steamed with herbs, garlic and chilli), a selection of olives and Calamarcitos (lemon flavoured calamari).

The new menu has much to choose from but to truly experience the authentic taste of the Mediterranean, begin with the Salade de Nizza (arugula, artichoke, fennel, cherry tomatoes, avocado, Manchego cheese with an Argan oil and cider vinaigrette dressing), a creamy Burrata with heirloom tomatoes and slow-roasted cherry tomatoes, or the piquant Gazpacho with king crab.

Seafood is a highlight at Nizza and the seafood platter (grilled lobster, king crab, red snapper, calamari, mussels, oysters, prawns) is a great sharing option. We had the signature Vivaneau Grenobloise (local red snapper with pomelo, grapefruit, lemon, caper berries and gooseberries) and it was delicious! The fish was perfectly cooked and played off the citrus flavours well. Classic French cooking is well represented with the Sole Meunière served with sautéed wild mushrooms and a garlic parsley cream, and the Confit de Canard with gratin potatoes, green beans and a pomegranate sauce.

To end, choose from five desserts from the recommended Fondant au Chocolat served with amaretto cream and pistachio ice cream to that most Italian of sweet treats, panna cotta with fruits and passion fruit foam.
