Taking up the space just behind the dining area inside the new Ben’s Independent Grocer in IPC Shopping Centre is The Grocer’s Kitchen. There’s a simple wooden sign above the stall with its name written in blue, and if you look over the counter, you’ll see the chefs making dishes such as pizza and sandwiches from scratch – so you know your food isn’t pre-made.
Although lacking in focus in terms of type of cuisine, the food offerings here are extensive. Think pizzas, sandwiches, steaks, salads and more; but the crowd-favourite is their selection of pizzas which includes classic flavours such as the Margherita, pepperoni and quattro formaggi. If you’re a fan of salmon, the Salmon De-Facto is a good choice – slices of smoked salmon are layered with pesto sauce and topped with onions, capers and almond flakes. If you’re looking for a grab-and-go meal, there are ready-to-go sandwiches; think chicken avocado wrap, ham and cheese toast, roast beef ciabatta and more. For something (arguably) healthier, go for the rotisserie chicken, which is available in whole, half or quarter portions and topped with your choice of chicken jus or black pepper sauce.
For drinks, if you’re planning to maintain your waistline go for the lemonade or iced tea; but if a healthy diet isn’t your main concern, pick from their five options of milkshakes. We liked the Nutella banana milkshake – the chocolaty concoction is surprisingly refreshing and light thanks to the added bananas.
