Publika’s strength lies in its creative, artsy vibe. Independent boutiques, galleries and cafés vie for your attention, which may be focused on admiring the sculptures dotted around the mall. Here are some of the best things to eat, shop and do in Publika.

Art

Solaris Dutamas
MAP consists of Black Box and White Box, plus Art Row – collectively, it’s a versatile venue for art exhibitions, gigs, film screenings, workshops and theatre. Art galleries are also aplenty; catch up on culture at Artemis Art Gallery, Galeri Chandan or Interpr8.

Fuyoh Art Bazaar is held every last Sunday of the month; also on Sundays from 7am to 10am, you can cycle, roller blade or bust out the scooters on Wheelie Sundays. Beat Monday blues with free – usually foreign – film screenings during Monday Movies at the courtyard.

Food and drink

Publika is home to a long, long list of restaurants, cafés and bars – but cut through the chase to Estilo, S.Wine and EAT Food Village. Every first and third Friday of the month, CoffeeSociété serves free flow coffee from 6pm to 11pm; just pay RM15. Finally of course, there’s also the ever-reliable The Bee.

Grocery store

Solaris Dutamas
Ben’s Independent Grocer – aka B.I.G. – is the go-to grocer; the gourmet mecca stocks premium imported goods, organics and rare cuts. It also houses a bakery, coffee roaster, deli, florist and other eateries.

Hobbies

Solaris Dutamas
Bang Bang Geng is a film camera shop for photography paraphernalia. On a less-trafficked lane in Publika, Ales & Lagers brings together hop heads – inside, you’ll find boutique, craft and microbrewery beers. Meanwhile, Soap Artisan sells handmade bath and beauty products; if you want to make your own, the soap makers also hold regular workshops.

The collaborative concept boutique, Dude & The Duchess + Shoes Shoes Shoes, features the best of Jonathan Liang, combined with contemporary cool shoe choices. For more shopping, Arcadia is a wonderland of vintage artworks and antiques, accoutrements and other hip home decor oddities – we love the arcade machines and tiffins.
