Bangsar’s coolest art studio hosts silkscreen printing classes and the best part is, the schedule is up to you as long as it’s within the studio’s opening hours. The course is inclusive of basic supplies but you can also bring your own or buy Raksasa’s tote bags, shirts and premium fabrics. They also offer refresher courses if after a few months you need another class to refresh your memory.

So you’ve mastered Instagram, now learn film photography. Paul Gadd’s photography class covers the basics of camera extensively, covering shutter speeds, types of lenses, camera formats and more. They also have various classes including a one-day introduction class, solarisation and pinhole camera classes.

KL has a science club now but instead of labs and lecture halls they gather at pubs and coffeehouses. You don’t have to have a background in science to participate so don’t feel intimidated. The group gathers every month and feature a scientist to discuss a particular topic such as quantum physics or space and has invited scientists Fabien Bouhier and Dr Amani Salim for its first two sessions.

Swing the east coast way and learn to swing dance. The taster class by KL Swing is for the east coast swing, a simpler version of the Lindy Hop. They’ll be playing beginner-friendly tunes so it will be easier for you to get your groove on. Ladies are encouraged to wear flats. If you decide to learn more after the first class, join the weekend workshops.

The Malaysian Institute of Architects hosts this regular public lecture for everyone interested in architecture, cities, urbanism, preservation and other things along the lines of that. Held at Black Box in Publika, the lecture features acclaimed speakers for each session including Maarten Gielen, Bernard Khoury, Dr Lai Chee Kien and Wan Azhar Wan Sulaiman.

One of our favourite stationery shops in KL hosts watercolour workshops for beginners so you can up your adult colouring book game. They also publish their own colouring book so think of it as practice for when you eventually colour in the book. Besides that, they host copperplate calligraphy classes if watercolours are not your thing.

If you’re approaching art as a form of therapy, Melanie Bayoud’s ‘Thinking With Ink’ workshop aims to do exactly that. With experience in mental health counseling and a passion for illustration and design, Melanie’s classes focus on thought processes, the effects of stress, brain games, and drawing and doodling tricks. Think of it as zen doodling. If you’re perfectly calm and stress-free, she also hosts other classes such as crochet and workshops for kids.
