In the late 1970’s, Brazilian artist, Cildo Meireles created a 24-hour performance in Rio de Janeiro that consisted of a mirrored room covered in phrases from the Sermon on the Mount with security guards watching over a pile of matchboxes. The premise of ‘O Sermão da Montanha: Fiat Lux (The Sermon on the Mount: Let There Be Light)’ forms the basis to this group exhibition that brings together artists, working in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, whose work sits between event and sculpture. Including Marcius Galan, Carla Zaccagnini and Adriano Costa; installations, wall texts and site-specific work are suspended between fixed positions, transformation and situation.
