Time Out says

Five animated characters repeat lines at one another - but each of their scripts is unique, and refuses to change. The context and meaning of their lines therefore change depending on which characters are interacting. It sounds complex, but it's a tool that's been used in film and art for decades, from Groundhog Day or the works of Samuel Beckett, through to the game of rock paper scissors.
