The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition is the largest open-submission exhibition in the world. For 2015, its 247th year, it'll be serving up its time-honoured mix of painting, printmaking, photography and sculpture by established and unknown artists. It’s a winning formula. Here are five things that make the Exhibition such a unique London event.
Older than Bruce Forsyth, unhindered by war, the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition is the indomitable, occasionally racy great-great aunt of London's big summer events. This year's show, overseen by Royal Academician Michael Craig-Martin, is a noticeably colourful affair. All-in-all there are 1,131 works packed into the galleries. Ahead of the official judging for prizes, including the £25,000 Charles Wollaston Award for most distinguished work on show, we were given an exclusive preview to come up with our own winners. Drumroll please; here are the results.
