Why go?
Whatever the name may suggest, this farm is firmly in central London: it sits on the banks of the Thames in Rotherhithe, overlooking the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf. It's deeply surreal watching sheep peacefully graze as towerblocks sprout just across the river, country and town colliding. But once you're over the initial shock, you'll feel right at home in this little patch of rustic life, with its small selection of sheep, pigs, cows, and ducks. The gardens are a highlight too, with beautifully arranged, natural-feeling schemes creating patches of tranquillity by the Thames.
Don't miss:
We're calling it: Surrey Docks' cafe The Barn has to be the best city farm cafe in London, with its divine, eclectic selection of homebaked cakes and sausage rolls. Perfect for enjoying on a wooden bench next to the water.
When to visit:
Every day, 10am-4pm.
Ticket info:
Free, donations welcomed.
Time Out tip:
This farm is right on the Thames path: continue your day out by walking along the river to nearby Lavender Pond Nature Reserve, a hidden garden with lakes and ducks.
