A quirky little boozer in east London that belongs to the Star family, who also run the Star of Kings, the Star by Hackney DownsJackdaw and Star, and the more recent Leyton Star. Spread over two floors, this Star pub hosts events, serves food and even has a private karaoke room.

We met here as the starting point for a birthday, which proved to be a great shout as this gem of a pub had atmosphere without being massively over-busy. The staff were friendly, and the drinks were reasonable, so the whole group were really happy. Well worth your time!

Friendly East London pub, that is great on nights when pubs closer to Brick Lane are totally rammed. It spreads across 2 floors so it’s more spacious than most of them. One of the cool tricks is that you can get Star loyalty card that gives you perks whenever you visit one of the Star pubs, depending on which day you are there.

Stopped in for a bite to eat. Quiet for a Wednesday, which means no issues with seating, however the bartender was very honest and said the food may take some time (~20 minutes) as a large table of 9 just ordered. We were OK with that, ordered, and had a pint of 5 points (a local brew) whilst we waited. I had the chicken burger whilst my husband had a beef burger and we shared some fries with cheese AND gravy (the bartender also lamented London's lack of poutine-- which won us over).

The burgers were pretty good, the chicken one did NOT fall apart like a previous commenter noted, so many they listened and eased up on the sauces. I was pleasantly surprised to find it grilled, and the cheese was a great pairing. Hubby's beef burger was very tender and very flavoursome.

Now here is a treat... the gravy itself on the fries is OK. A bit too runny, but OK. Where it comes into its own though is when you dip your burger in the leftover gravy. Oh. My. Yes. A thousand times yes. It gets soaked up wonderfully in the brioche bun and if you are careful and eat it quickly, the bun itself does not lose structural integrity. Get it. You will not be disappointed.

Stopped in to this cute pub for a bite to eat midday. I had the chicken burger with brie and caramelized onions, it tasted good but fell apart almost immediately. The atmosphere is great and got really busy around 6pm on a Friday.

This is a great place to get work done during the day and grab drinks with friends at night.

Recently went to the Star of Bethnal Green to have a try at their latest food residency: The Patate Burger, a burger made of boeuf bourguignon and raclette. The recipe was bound to be incredible if only the service was not that long (45 minutes) and that the burger was nicely prepared (not the case, they are better presented in Brick Lane Market despite being a food truck). A bit disappointed but this place has some serious potential!

Friendly and welcoming with a wide variety of entertainment plus good food.

Love the Sunday roast...apparently its also the pub where London's Leicester City fans congregate..

Great local boozer with a good atmosphere, tunes and food. What more do you want?

Having been out with friends, we were having a lovely time, the bar staff were very nice, the music was a good selection and the vibe was there until....

I stepped out of the pub for a breath of fresh air and a chat with one of the people I was with. I made a point of passing in front of the bouncer so that he'd notice I was going to stand outside,  typical etiquette which saves explaining who you are and where you came from when you're trying to get back in. I stood around the entrance with another 7-8 other people.

When I tried to re-enter the bar, past the 3 bouncers I'd nodded to beforehand, one decides to give me grief. So you hadn't seen me exit before Mr Bouncer? And now I was trying to sneak into your bar unnoticed, was I? And how come my jacket, scarf and drink are inside? The oxblood scarf is folded neatly in the black jacket, squashed at the back of the leather sofa's left cushion. The wine glass is on the low 'shabby chic' coffee table, the third one along with the final dregs of pinot grigio in it.

I turned on the politeness and charm and I was back in! Mr Bouncer I know you were expecting me to get all angry so you could amuse yourself by tossing me out but instead of making a scene at 1:00am on Bethnal Green road I'd much rather vent here.

You see, when bars don't screen their security staff and skimp over their training their reputation suffers. Mr Bouncer it's your job to know all the faces in front of the bar, it's your job to be able to greet people and talk to them in the correct tone (for each situation - good, bad, ugly).

And lastly Mr Bouncer you may have big fists but so do I, the only difference is how we use them to deliver the final punch.

This pub is in a good location along Bethnal Green Road and is open until 2am on the weekends, unlike a lot of places nearby. I've been to the Star of Bethnal Green and always enjoyed it even though it's quite grungy. The last time I went though, I requested a song from the DJ and he said that by requesting a song I was insulting his music and essentially saying that I didn't like anything he had played up to that point. He was very rude and it's put me off ever going back.

I went to Star of Bethnal Green with my flatmate last Monday after having just moved to the area. We got the 14 chicken wings and 2 fries for £10 - such good quality! The chicken was very tasty, especially with the General's Sauce. We also got a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate our move! The pub has a really nice chilled atmosphere and the staff are great. They have a loyalty card which is a no brainer for anyone who lives in the area.
