Five ace outdoor cinemas screenings in London this weekend

After the rainiest June since Noah, the weather man is saying the sun’s here for the weekend. Here’s our pick of films screening outdoors in the next few days – because drinking rosé in the park is all very well, but it's even better when you're watching a great movie.

‘The Revenant’ on top of the Bussey Building in Peckham

This is the film equivalent of slipping an ice cube down your back. Leonardo DiCaprio spent nine months freezing his arse off in the wilds shooting big, brutal revenge drama ‘The Revenant’. Which makes it perfect for cooling down after a hot day. And unlike Leo you won’t have to feast on raw bison liver. Food is provided by pop-up Italian supperclub Forza Win. Friday, July 22, £16.50

The Life Aquatic at Brockwell Lido

Brockwell Lido near Brixton continues its season of watery-themed movies with Wes Anderson’s seafaring adventure starring the mighty Bill Murray. The VIP seats – dinghies in the water – are sold out. Everyone else bring cushions, you’re on the concrete poolside. You can also book now for ‘Titanic’ and ‘Jaws’ in September. Thursday, July 21, £15

Total Recall at Meantime Brewery Greenwich

A mini-heatwave means outdoor drinking. Why not combine that with an outdoor sci-fi classic at Meantime Brewery in Greenwich? On Saturday, they’re screening Arnie smasher ‘Total Recall’, in which the Austrian Oak plays an average guy (right!) who gets mixed up in a revolution on Mars. See you at the party, Richter! Saturday, July 23. £15

Dirty Dancing at Secret Cinema

There have been grumblings about Secret Cinema. Has it got too expensive? How much queuing is too much queuing? We joined thousands lugging beach balls and hula hoop across London to a park in east London last weekend for their summer production of ‘Dirty Dancing’. And while, yes, there is a heck of a lot of queuing, this is a movie experience up there with last summer’s ‘The Empire Strikes Back’. (But do take a credit card – Kellerman's Resort is a cash-free zone). July 22, 23, 24. £67.

‘Back to the Future’ in Exchange Square

We haven’t tried this outdoor film pop-up in Exchange Square near Liverpool Street. But on Friday they’re putting on a free screening of beloved time-hopping comedy ‘Back to the Future’. Perfect if you’re already feeling the end-of-the-month-crunch. Friday July 22, free.
