Update! Prince plays two ‘Piano & A Microphone’ shows at Theatre Royal Drury Lane on Sunday November 29. Set your alarm for 10am on Friday if you want to book Prince tickets.

Word up: Prince is coming back to town. A year and a half on from his last-minute ‘Hit and Run’ shows, it’s being reported that the Purple One is planning a solo tour called ‘Prince Spotlight: Piano & A Microphone’, which will travel across Europe between November 21 and December 22. It’ll apparently include four UK dates in Glasgow, Birmingham, London and Liverpool, and it’ll be a stripped-back affair (as the name would suggest): just Prince and a piano, hopefully bashing out some hits in virtuoso style.

Why? Apparently he’s up for a challenge: ‘I rarely get bad reviews because this is something that’s been perfected for over 30 years. You have to try new things. With the piano it is more naked, more pure.’ Reports that he will actually perform naked are as yet unconfirmed.

So are details of the London show, actually, but reports suggest it’ll take place at the appropriately named Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The theatre plays host to ‘Charlie and The Chocolate Factory’ five days a week, so if we were the gambling types, we’d bet on a Sunday show.

Either that or a West End audience is in for an incredible surprise when Prince takes to the stage as Willy Wonka. He’s already got the purple jacket, after all.

Here’s what happened last time Prince announced London live dates.
