10. Teeth Of The Sea

9. Faithless

The slick dance veterans bring their cathedral-house beats and the lowering tones of singer Maxi Jazz to the Academy. O2 Academy Brixton. Thu Aug 18.

8. Fete Quaqua

A three-day feast of dizzying free improvisation from acclaimed musicians, including Lol Coxhill, John Russell and Alex Ward. Freaky. Vortex. Sun Aug 21-Aug 23.

7. Abstract Hip Hop Orchestra

The group pays homage to one of hip hop’s most legendary and influential figures: J Dilla. Jazz Cafe. Fri Aug 19.

6. Quincy Jones Prom

Metropole Orkest and Quincy himself play thrilling takes on hits and film scores by the legendary R&B producer. Royal Albert Hall. Mon Aug 22.

Bow Wow Wow

5. Bow Wow Wow

New wave icon Annabella Lwin and her gang take you back to the ’80s with Afropop-slanted, percussion-heavy hits like ‘I Want Candy’. The Garage. Sat Aug 20.

4. The Sixteen: Bach & Pärt

The leading choir juxtapose the work of JS Bach with pieces by contemporary minimalist Arvo Pärt at the Proms. Royal Albert Hall. Tue Aug 16.

3. Canary Wharf Jazz Festival

Now in its tenth year, London’s largest free (as in gratis!) jazz fest welcomes Red Snapper, Julia Biel and J-Sonics. Canada Square Park. Sat Aug 20-Sun Aug 21.

2. Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Lift your skinny fists to the heavens and salute the stirring post-rock of this Montreal collective. The Coronet. Thu Aug 18.

The best gig this week: Novelist

In 2015 Lewisham boy Kojo Kankam signed to XL and rapped with Kanye, marking him as one of grime’s brightest young things. Now his latest track ‘Snitches’ points in intriguing new directions. Hear his gripping, stripped-back flow live. XOYO. Thu Aug 18.
