The Angel Comedy Club is crowdfunding for a permanent home

Isabelle Aron

For the last six years, the folks at Angel Comedy Club have been keeping London laughing with their ace comedy nights in a room above the Camden Head pub. The events are totally free, but if you like what you see, you can donate as much or as little as you like. Over the years, they’ve gone from hosting gigs once a week to putting on big names and new talent every night of the week. And now they’ve outgrown their space in Camden, so they’ve taken the plunge and bought their own pub.

But the pub needs work, and given that they don’t charge a penny for their comedy nights, they’re pretty short on cash. So, like many cash-strapped Londoners with big ideas, they’ve turned to Kickstarter to help raise some money. But it’s not all take, take, take - they’re also offering some pretty sweet rewards. As well as tote bags, hoodies and t-shirts, they’re offering backers the chance to put an engraved plaque on anything you like in the pub with pretty much any message (unless it's hugely offensive). You can even name a fire exit, an ale pump or a urinal, so if you’ve always wanted to have your name engraved on a fancy plaque in a toilet, now’s your chance to have your weird dreams come true.
