While Daft Punk are revelling in their status as disco's new champions, it's a timely reminder to salute those who paved the way for them, perhaps the most innovative of which is the late Arthur Russell. The US cellist and musician's quietly crucial contribution to disco composition were and still are thoughtful and beautiful. So this night in a south east London cinema, featuring a screening of 'Wild Combination' (a documentary about Russell's life) and a night of disco tunes spun by Rye Lane All Stars and Bahamian Moor, sounds grand to us. All profits from the bargain entry price are also donated to the Terrence Higgins Trust.
