Ballroom blitz

A sparkly flurry of ballroom and Latin shows are coming to the London stage

Advertising
Saturday night telly may have been bursting with sashaying sequins for months, but ballroom is at its best in the perma-tanned flesh. Lyndsey Winship gives her verdict on five ballroom and latin shows set to tear up the dancefloor in 2013.
Strictly Come Dancing Live
  • Theatre
  • West End

USP Celebs including Denise van Outen, Louis Smith and Lisa Riley climb back into their spangly Spandex for an arena-set showdown.
We say Just like the TV version, except there’s no Brucie and Tess. That might be a plus point.
Scorecard 10/10 if you love the TV show, 0/10 if you can’t stand it

Tango Fire
  • Dance

USP Real Argentinian tango. From Argentina! Featuring five World Tango Champions among the cast.
We say More authentic than the likes of Vincent and Flavia, but this is still showy tango for an international audience, and impressive it is too.
Scorecard 8/10

Midnight Tango
  • Theatre
  • West End

USP Vehicle for ‘Strictly’ pros Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace, one-time real-life couple and UK dance champs. There’s a (lame) story and comic relief comes courtesy of guest star Russell Grant.
We say A decent, hammy and likeable West End show, although it’s completely without the subtlety and intimacy of true Argentine tango.
Scorecard 7/10

Burn The Floor
  • Theatre
  • West End

USP Raunchy ballroom and Latin spectacle with the requisite special guests from ‘Strictly’ – Robin Windsor (the macho beefcake one) and Kristina Rihanoff (the sexy Siberian blonde).
We say A high-energy hurtle through the whole gamut of ballroom and Latin dance.
Scorecard 6/10 (don’t think too hard, just enjoy the razzle-dazzle)

Brendan Cole: Licence to Thrill

USP A 007-styled evening with Aussie dancer Cole overseeing live music, dance and chat.
We say Cheeeeese! Nobody told Cole that Bond theme parties are so 2000.
Scorecard 4/10
