Time Out says

4 out of 5 stars

The second branch of Chris Ward's contemporary barber shop, which first opened in Shoreditch in 2012.

Seasoned hair dude Chris Ward opened his first Huckle barber shop on Old Street in 2012, and this second outpost has been seeing to Bloomsbury’s beards and barnets since 2015. The clean and simple aesthetic carries through to the service. No fussy grooming, vaguely invasive massage or ear-flaming tricks here – ‘our gimmick is: no gimmicks,’ my barber Marshal said. Which sounded slick, but turned out to be bang on.

Once settled in a big, comfy barber’s chair, hair-washed and hot-towelled, I got the best cut I’ve had in ages. Marshal took a few minutes to work out what was going on upstairs before getting stuck in, recommended a few products but never went the full sales pitch, and provided great chat without the awkward. The soundtrack was on point (there’s a ‘Band of the Month’ blackboard – this month: Future Islands) and the coffee was very decent. For after-work appointments they’ve also got craft ale on tap and a selection of whiskies.

At £45 for a wash and trim and £22 for a clipper cut, this isn’t a budget option. But if that’s in your price range and you're after a top cut without the fake-Edwardian faff, Huckle’s the business.

I am in no way affiliated with Huckle, I am just a customer and all I have to say is that I have visited many different barber shops in Central London or inside trendy department stores. Really nothing beats the quality of Huckle. Their barbers are the créme de la créme (shoutout Marhsal & Gavin), their services are amazing and the atmosphere is so so friendly. Locations are really cool tool. In my opinion THE best barbershop in London.

Enjoy a coffee or stronger, an eclectic sound track and leave with a trim that demands compliments.

Visiting the shop is more like hanging out with friends, who happen to be top quality barbers than just "having a hair cut". Marshals been looking after me for a few years now and I would recommend him to everyone looking to have a chat about life, music, food and of course a trim on the side.

Definitely my favourite place to get my hair cut in London. Great atmosphere and very relaxed, conversational barbers (Marshal being my swordsman of choice). Can't recommend it highly enough.

I have been visiting Marshal at the Holborn location since it opened, and I could not be more satisfied with the experience he and Huckle provide.

The barbers at Huckle take huge pride in providing first class customer service experience. It's a great place to hang out, have a drink and chat. I always feel better leaving than when I came in.

I can’t recommend Huckle enough. I first visited Marshal 5 years ago and he’s the only person to cut my hair since then. Always a great haircut, but also an opportunity to catch up, enjoy a drink and relax in a friendly place.

Great haircut is about communication and execution. As soon as you step on the barber chair, Chris will settle you right in and make you feel at home. He is attentive and will work with you to realise your vision. With over 15 years of experience, he is definitely a safe pair of hands to make you leave his barbershop feeling much better than when you went in. Top-notch service with shampooing, cutting, clipping and styling. The hot towel at the end is the icing on the cake. Last but not least, the barbers seem to take their time and are relatively less rigid with the time slot which is a huge plus for the customers. You won't be disappointed!

So much more than just a haircut. And a beard trim. An hour at Huckle is an hour spent in a parallel universe, where your facial geometry is improved while you drink in the vibe of a shapeshifting gentleman's club, where as much thought is put into the visual and aural landscapes and the beverage selection as the tonsure.

My first visit to a Barbers in a good few years and it was a great experience. Chris really knew his stuff about hair and i was made to feel relaxed and welcome in a great environment with good music and a complimentary drink. I will definitely be back.

Every single trip to Huckle is a pleasure, even after being a customer for about a year. With some places you get a below-par performance every now and then - but not with these guys, Huckle gets it right each time

Not only do you get a top quality cut from a barber who listens and helps with styling, you get quality hospitality from the team as well. Always a warm welcome, always engaging and never a disappointment. Best place in London

I've been getting my hair cut at Huckle for years and I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. Chris usually cuts my hair but several of the team have had a go and they are all brilliant. The salon is stylish without a hint of being pretentious and the team are all welcoming and friendly.

The hot towel, good chat, great tunes and craft beer all add to the experience. Most importantly, though, Chris is a superb barber and I always leave with a great haircut. Before discovering Huckle, getting my hair cut was a chore - now I look forward to it. Keep up the good work, guys!

Have been to these guys three times now and I am always treated amazingly by Chris and the rest of the team. There is a warm, friendly atmosphere that you instantly feel at home with. Warmly greeted and offered a coffee, water or even a craft beer and then time was spent by Chris to get to know what I wanted from the haircut. The attention to detail was brilliant and the whole experience (including a fantastic hot towel which I could have stayed under that all afternoon!) was outstanding. I have been to many salons and none were as accommodating or understanding of their customer's needs. I won't be going anywhere else for a while! I encourage people to try them out as they won't be disappointed!

Have been getting my hair cut by Chris now for a while and as soon as you walk in the door you're warmly greeted and offered a beer or whatever else takes your fancy. Fantastic service and I love the attention to detail my hair gets and the hot towel treatment towards the end of the cut. The atmosphere inside is superb, everyone is super friendly and the music playlist is top notch. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
