With its Tudor history and 110 acres of grounds, Down Hall is a rather magnificent place to spend the night, especially if you manage to book one of the rooms overlooking its immaculate lawn and gorgeous fountain. Despite its luxurious furnishings and stately appearance, the hotel is far from stuffy, with plenty of smiling staff and modern conveniences. The Grill Room restaurant is in probably the least appealing corner of the ground floor, but what it lacks in looks it makes up for in kitchen ability; the menu is packed with interesting dishes that are presented beautifully and every bit as tasty as they sound. The Eden Spa, housed in a detached building, offers a gym, sauna, steam room, beauty treatments and massages. The four-star hotel offers 98 bedrooms, all of which are individually designed and reflect elegance and character. A truly opulent stay.
