You might think that the rapid and continuing trendification of this ever-hip quarter would mean rich pickings in the search for the best hotels in Brixton – but you’d be wrong. The only proper hotel in Brixton is a Premier Inn, which opened in July 2016 on the old Woolworths site, amid griping about gentrification. Meanwhile, visitors flocking to the fantastic eating and drinking in Brixton Village and Market Row and at community venture Pop Brixton or to nighttime entertainments at the O2 Academy, the Ritzy cinema or in Brixton’s buzzy bars, can find independent hotels in nearby Camberwell and Clapham. In the meantime, here's our pick of the best hotels in Brixton.

  • Brixton

This is hardly your average hostel. Hardcore party people and musos crash here, and no under 18s are allowed.

  • Camberwell

Camberwell’s darling, this fiercely independent hotel is a rum beast – with, indeed, a bar that prides itself on its selection of ‘boutique’, UK-aged rums. The mix of Latin American flamboyance and attention to customer comforts is a winning one. Rooms are brightly coloured, with simple rustic furniture and bathrooms clad in painted Mexican tiles. Little extras, such as organic chocolates and toiletries, make you feel loved. There’s an honesty bar in the Havana Lounge.
