He may sit down to play since his double lung transplant in 2004, but this legendary folk fiddler – best known for his work with Fairport Convention and Whippersnapper – is still a mesmerising player, his bow flitting through melodies like a bird between branches. Nor has he come to anything like a creative stand-still: he released his first ever solo album in 2010.
