El Gusto Orchestra of Algiers

Once described as Algiers's answer to the Buena Vista Social Club, this 25-piece orchestra of Jewish and Muslim musicians brought the house down at the Barbican in 2007. Their infectious energy is partly thanks to their vigorous blend of Andalucian melodies, chanson and jazz, and partly because of their shared triumph over 50 years of divided history.
