Matthew Halsall Sextet

Cool school jazz from this charismatic Mancunian trumpter who's released a trio of fine 'Kind Of Blue'-ish albums the latest of which is 'On The Go'. With a sparse yet warm sound Halsall's highly lyrical melodies and spacious grooves are a breath of fresh air, all helped along by a band that features harpist Rachel Gladwin and 'Trane-esque tenor/soprano saxophonist Nat Birchall.
