The Tories have plans to scrap May Day, the only bank holiday with a connection to the traditions and concerns of ordinary people, so events such as this folk alldayer from excellent London folk club The Magpie's Nest are to be celebrated all the more. There's ladylike gypsy folk from SITW, East London bluegrass from Kidnap Alice, nautical nostalgia from Hackney based a-cappella group the City Shanty Band, and a set from the club's founder and extremely charismatic folk singer, Lee. Bloody bargain, this.
