What right does a British royal have to play the blues? Every right, you might argue, when he's this good. Born the Hon Roland Augusto Jestyn Estanislao Philips, son of a Viscount, Sharpville was mentored as a teen by Joe Louis Walker, released his debut album in 1994, beat Eric Clapton to the Best UK Guitarist award at the British Blues Connection awards the following year, and has since played with everyone from Van Morrison to Pink. His game is soulful, slow-cranked blues with a deep vocal – like Mark Lanegan with a rather different back story. There's also some more Bryan Adams-y fare in his set. And you can expect some impressive guests at this special birthday party concert – the boy's got connections.
