How much do you love London? Enough to deck out your entire living room with furniture inspired by its most iconic sights?
You can already get your hands on chairs and sofas that take their cues from London Underground upholstery. And soon, you’ll be able to fill your home with furniture, lighting and accessories based on everyone’s favourite brutalist structure.
The Barbican has collaborated with furniture and homeware brand MADE to create an interiors collection inspired by its history and iconic brutalist architecture. Many of the items have taken inspiration from the interiors of the building’s original show flats in the 1960s, which were designed by architect Miriam Howitt. Think geometric shapes, retro colours and sculptural silhouettes.
You could deck out an entire living room with items from the new line. Highlights include a £50 curve table lamp inspired by the Barbican Hall’s tubular acoustic panels, a £100 rug that reimagines a design from one of the estate’s original show flats and a £450 chair with pill-shaped cutout voids and subtle industrial elements. There are also coffee tables, sofas, chest of drawers, shelving, posters and cushions.
Everything from the collection will be available on the MADE and Barbican shop websites from August 17. You can also see the items in person before you buy in the Barbican Centre’s Level G Hub Space as part of the London Design Festival in September.
