At one point in time, anyone looking for halal restaurants in London would mostly be restricted to curries or fried chicken. That’s not the case anymore. There are now endless halal-certified joints across the city for its Muslim community and visitors to enjoy, from traditional Middle Eastern fare to Filipino fusion restaurants, smashburger purveyors and Michelin-starred establishments. Truly spoiled for choice.
We’ve put all of the best of those eateries (all confirmed as halal by certification, verbal confirmation or the restaurant’s own FAQs online) into one big guide. Each place serves impeccable food but there is one halal restaurant that stands out above the rest. The new number one on our guide is Afghan smokehouse Cue Point.
Cue Point isn’t new – it’s been popping up in areas across London for the past decade – but it has recently found a new forever home in Notting Hill. Now, it sits in a huge beer garden near Latimer Road station, serving a ‘brilliantly over-the-top’ Texan feasting menu fused with Afghan flavours, all halal-friendly.
Time Out food editor Leonie Cooper paid Cue Point a visit and reported that it’s ‘so good it almost makes you want to laugh’. The brisket burnt end skewers are a must-try, as are the trademark Texas naan, the oak-smoked lamb shank and the show-stopping Wagyu brisket steak.
Oh, and not only is it the best halal restaurant, but it’s also the greatest barbecue restaurant in the city right now. Leonie said about its steak: ‘the best barbecue we’ve ever eaten on UK soil as soft to the point of melting off the plate and oozing down Latimer Road’.
