Sure, spending time with your friends and the taste of a crisp, cold beer at the pub can both make for a great night on the razz. But arguably the best part of any night out? The kebab you sink your teeth into at the end of the evening. There are few pleasures quite like the spicy, salty goodness of a cheeky chicken shish or a doner and chips lathered in sauce.

But kebabs aren’t just reserved for times when you need something to soak up the booze after sinking one too many. In fact, one swanky London restaurant is hosting an entire ‘kebab festival’ to show a more elevated side to the dish.

Trafalgar Square eatery Colonel Saab will be running a month-long special menu designed to pay tribute to the history of the kebab and its place in Indian cooking.

Served from 12pm to 3pm every Monday to Saturday from August 20 to September 19, you’ll be able to choose from a South Indian-inspired Pepper Fry beef kebab, Shikandari Raan made with goat, or a Galouti kebab made with slow-cooked lamb. Originally invented in the 18th century for a toothless nawab, the meat is so soft you don’t even need to chew.

A total of 12 kebabs are available as part of the restaurant’s festival, plus almond rice pudding or bread and butter pudding for a finishing sweet treat.

Colonel Saab’s High Holborn site made it into a list of the Big Smoke’s best curry spots this year, as chosen by the Asian Catering Federation, and the top 100 worldwide. Check out the other winners here.
