Do you live in or near Southall, Hanwell and Acton? If so, we come bearing excellent news. The three west London neighbourhoods are all getting more morning train services, thereby making your rush hour that bit less of a crush.
The new services will all be weekday Elizabeth line trains starting from Heathrow Terminal 5. Each station – Southall, Hanwell and Acton Main Line – will get three more trains than it does currently, all between the hours of 7.30am and 9am. TfL says that the new timetable will come into effect on May 18.
And that’s not all that’s changing on the purple line. Ten more trains have been ordered by TfL for the Lizzie line, the first of which are set to enter service at the end of this year. The new locomotives are being brought in to support more rail customers, especially in advance of the opening of Old Oak Common as an HS2 terminus (though that isn’t expected until 2029 at the absolute earliest).
Commenting on the new services, TfL’s Director of Rail Trish Ashton said: ‘The Elizabeth line is the UK’s single busiest railway service, carrying an average of 800,000 customers a day during the week.
‘These timetable updates at west London stations will provide additional capacity during the peak hours of the morning, helping customers travel more comfortably on the line during this busier time.’
Here’s how many trains will serve Southall, Hanwell and Acton during the peak morning hour of 8am to 9am on weekdays, after the new timetable has come into effect.
- Southall – 10 trains
- Hanwell – 6 trains
- Acton Main Line – 8 trains
