The Christmas period is a favourite among rail companies planning major engineering works. The lack of commuters makes Christmas, Twixmas and the New Year ideal – even if it does cause a fair amount of bother for those that are still forced to rely on those services.

Network Rail has revealed that Liverpool Street will close between Christmas Eve and January 2, impacting services like the Weaver line and Stansted Express, as well as routes operated by Greater Anglia and c2c.
