It’s been five years since handbag designer Anya Hindmarch launched her leftfield sidehustle: a summer scoop shop specialising in eccentric flavours. As temperatures rise, The Ice Cream Project turns a Belgravia shop into a sleek, stainless-steel lined temple to the cold stuff, lined with sweet homages to classic British supermarket brands, laid out in enticing grids. And for its fifth year in operation, the flavours are as challenging as ever.

Euthymol toothpaste ice cream is a refreshing dessert that corrodes your teeth and cleans them, all at the same time (well, you might want to double check that with a dentist). OXO stock cube ice cream offers a beefy hit with a note of caramel. And Paxo stuffing is a sage and onion scoop that you could probably serve up alongside roast chicken, if you wanted to guarantee you'll never be asked to cook Sunday dinner again.

If you’re keen to stick to flavours that are delicious in a less disconcerting way, there are also some more classic options like Capri-Sun Orange, Tunnock’s Caramel Wafers, Mcvitie’s Ginger Nuts and Lurpak Salted Butter – for anyone who wants to take their butter obsession to the next level.

Feeling hungry yet? There’s not long to wait. The Ice Cream Project opens its doors this weekend, running from Friday June 5 to August 16. Grab a full 300ml tub for £16, or if you don’t want to take a pricy gamble on a palette-stretching flavour, pick up an individual scoop from £4.50. It’s open seven days a week, but be prepared to queue at weekends.

And since pretty much everyone’s fantasy job is ‘ice cream tester’, there’s also the option to book a dreamy session sampling the full menu of 15 flavours. Pre-book the Ice Cream Project Blind Tasting Tea at least 48 hours in advance for £50 per head, and you’ll get to try each scoop alongside wafers and sprinkles, and mark each one on a scorecard using a special branded pencil. It’s a golden opportunity to work out if you can tell your Green Giant sweetcorn from your Aunt Bessie’s Yorkies. And if you can’t, there's no shame in settling for a cornershop Magnum next time.
