Music’s biggest names can’t seem to stay away from the food biz. Eminem has a Detroit restaurant called Mom’s Spaghetti, Snoop Dogg is forever popping up in Just Eat ads, Blur’s Alex James now makes artisanal cheeses, and Ed Sheeran has his very own hot sauce, unappealingly named ‘Tingly Ted’s’. Now, London rapper Professor Green is getting in on the act, with a brand-new fast food restaurant launching in Soho in mid-September.

Called ‘Proper Good’, this isn’t your standard burger or fried chicken joint. Instead, it’s a build-your-own-meal concept that sounds ideal for anyone who likes to customise their food to the max. There’s already a first branch of PG Fast Food in Glasgow, which lays out the rough format. There are four adventurous base meal options: potato puffs, a South Korean-inspired UFO sub, loaded rice, or a loaded salad. Then, you can pile ’em high with toppings including miso salmon, pot roast beef, cheesy beans or pickled red chilli peas. There are also tons of dips and side options, including probiotic slaw, yoghurt ranch dressing, or spicy chimichurri.

The restaurant’s loosely Asian influence shows up in drinks including mango matcha and blueberry boba. And in a fun healthy touch, you can get frozen grapes for dessert, with kooky flavours including ‘unicorn’ or ‘upside down cheesecake’.

The Glasgow spot seems pretty popular, with TripAdvisor reviews praising its unusual, healthy choices: ‘a taste explosion...meeting Professor Green out of the blue was a nice surprise’ said one satisfied visitor.

Cracking the busy central London market could be a challenge, but Proper Good will have its location in its favour. The restaurant’s new spot on 3 Soho Street is on an underserved thoroughfare between Oxford Street and Soho Square, making it an easy spot for shoppers to pop into, whether they’re craving a matcha, ravenous for a sandwich, or just treating the kids to some unicorn frozen grapes.
