Once a daytime telly staple, these days Red Bull’s hair-raising, bonkers Soapbox Race is also a short-form video hit. The event, which sees adrenaline junkies around the world pelt down hills in homemade vehicles, is all over TikTok and Instagram (well, it’s all over my feed, anyway).
This past weekend the Red Bull Soapbox Race took place in London. The sold-out event took over Alexandra Palace on Saturday (June 20), marking the first time the capital has hosted since 2024.
As always, contestants weren’t just judged on how fast they could get their engine-less vehicle down Ally Pally’s very, very steep hill. Creativity and showmanship were also taken into account, which naturally made for plenty of eye-catching designs. Time Out photographer Chris Bethell went up to N22 to shoot this year’s soapboxes (and their teams) in all their glory.
