The wait is over! An agonising 17 years after Tottenham Hotspur last won any silverware – and four decades since they did so in Europe – the Lilywhites have finally got their hands on another trophy.

Wednesday night saw Ange Postecoglou’s injury-stricken team see out a 1-0 victory against fellow English side Manchester United in the Europa League Final in Bilbao. Welsh winger Brennan Johnson was credited with scoring the only goal in the tie (although some would put it down as a Luke Shaw own goal) in a nerve-shredding match, which also featured a magnificent goal-line clearance by defender Micky van de Ven and a late save from goalkeeper Vicario.

Over 40,000 Spurs fans watched the victory unfold from inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, before flooding the pitch afterwards to celebrate the end of the historic club’s notorious trophy drought. The celebrations then continued long into the night at the area’s pubs and bars, many of which had secured late licenses just for the occasion.

When is the trophy parade?

The party isn’t over yet! The club will also be staging an open-top bus parade around Tottenham so that Spurs fans who didn’t make it over to Bilbao will have a chance to celebrate with the team. Kicking of the bank holiday weekend, the parade is due to take place tomorrow evening, on Friday May 23.

What time does the trophy parade start?

The celebrations will kick off at 3pm from a stage erected outside the north stand of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Paxton Terrace, with DJs, live music and appearances from Spurs legends, but fans with office jobs will be pleased to hear that the parade itself won’t get going until 5.30pm, when the open-top bus will take off from Edmonton Green. The parade is expected to last between 60 and 90 minutes, after which the players and coaching staff will appear on the Paxton Terrace stage for a trophy presentation.

Fans hoping to attend are advised that the area of the High Road immediately outside of the stadium is expected to reach capacity very early. For a better view of the bus carrying the players, fans are encouraged to spread out across the parade route, with screens positioned at intervals along the route to ensure all fans will have a great view of what’s happening on the stage.

What is the trophy parade route?

After departing from Edmonton Green at approximately 5.30pm, the open-top bus will follow this route:

  • The Broadway/Fore Street (Southbound)
  • High Road (Southbound) past the stadium
  • Lansdowne Road (Eastbound)
  • Willoughby Lane (Northbound)
  • Northumberland Park (Westbound)

Tottenham trophy parade road closures

Drivers are advised that there will be several road closures around Tottenham throughout the day, starting as early as 11am. Affected roads include the High Road, White Hart Lane, Northumberland Park, Lordship Lane, Lansdowne Road, Worcester Avenue, Park Avenue and Fore Street. For a full list of closures and timings, visit the Tottenham Hotspur website here

Fans are strongly advised not to drive to the parade, but to instead use public transport. Edmonton Green, Silver Street, White Hart Lane and Bruce Grove stations on the Weaver Line all serve the parade route, while Northumberland Park (Greater Anglia), Tottenham Hale (Greater Anglia and Victoria Line) and Seven Sisters (Weaver Line and Victoria Line) are also within walking distance. See you there!
