For many of us, the morning-commute-coffee is a ritual. It’s tasty, it wakes us up, and it gives us something to look forward to even on the greyest of mornings. But where do you go for your daily coffee pilgrimage?

Depending on your tastes, you could select a spot from Time Out’s guide to London’s high street flat whites. But let’s face it – why pick a chain when so many great indies exist? The coffee is pretty much always better, and there’s literally hundreds of excellent local roasters and brewers in London that you could choose from. So many, in fact, that actually finding the best one is difficult.

Which is where the Telegraph’s latest list comes in. The newspaper has just released its list of the 10 best coffee shops in the capital, and some of them are also amongst Time Out’s faves.

But what actually makes a café the ‘best’? Well, the Telegraph says that when it sends its editor to try one out, they’ll be looking at the quality of the food, service and atmosphere, as well as the ‘best tables’, prices, and, of course, the coffee itself.

Of the Telegraph’s top 10, three coffee shops were also named by Time Out’s food and drinks editor as London’s best. As we’re all in agreement about these spots, there’s a very high likelihood that you’ll love them too.

Appearing on both lists is Monmouth in Borough Market, with what the Telegraph describes as ‘impeccably sourced espresso blend’. Time Out named Monmouth the ‘grandmama of high-class coffee in London’ thanks to its tasteful decor and attention to detail in all aspects.

Algerian Coffee Stores was also named by both publications, described as having ‘cult-status’ by the Telegraph. The biggest draw here – aside from being nearly in its 140th year of trading – is the prices. Algerian Coffee Stores sells an espresso for just £1.10.

Finally, Kaffeine on Great Titchfield Street was named by the Telegraph as a cool, vibey spot right off Oxford Street. The Telegraph praised it for some of its more niche offerings, saying ‘coffee connoisseurs can geek out with a tasting flight of espresso or cortado shots’.
