If you’ve been waiting, goggles and swim cap in hand, for the opening date of east London’s biggest new outdoor swim spot, we’re here to say the wait is finally almost over.

First announced in September last year, Sea Lanes is a new fresh water swimming pool which will float on top of the Thames. The open air lido, which is 50 metres in length and 1.3 metres deep, will feature six lanes swimming lanes designed to cater to all ages and capabilities, from family dips to serious cold-water plunges.

Canary Wharf is already home to one outdoor swimming area, but unlike the existing Eden Dock, which is open for swimming in the summer and early autumn, Sea Lanes will be available to book year round and filled with naturally filtered freshwater, completely cut off from the river.

Alongside the pool, the swimming complex will also feature two steamy, glass-fronted saunas which will be powered entirely by renewable energy. And if you’re feeling peckish after all that backstroke, there’ll also be food and drink served at the community clubhouse, which is set to host wellness events and even offer a wetsuit concierge service.

The opening date for Sea Lanes Canary Wharf has just been announced, and the outdoor pool will welcome its first keen swimmers on June 19.

Prices still haven’t been revealed, but we can tell you that you’ll be able to choose from a membership or pay-per-swim option for more casual visits.
