Maazel: Mahler Cycle 2011 (Fifth Symphony)

The Philharmonia Orchestra under Lorin Maazel performs Mahler's settings of 'Des Knaben Wunderhorn' (The Youth's Magic Horn) – a collection of German folk poems that have been set to music by a number of composers - with mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly and baritone Matthias Goerne; and Symphony No 5, a piece of gargantuan musical and emotional scope, from which the haunting Adagietto is frequently performed in its own right.
