The Philharmonia Orchestra plays under Christian Vásquez - a product of the life-changing El Sistema programme which produced Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra. They perform Berlioz's Overture, 'Le Carnaval Romain'; Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No 3 – one of the most difficult piano works in the repertoire, featuring pianist Denis Matsuev; and Tchaikovsky's anguished Symphony No 6 ('Pathétique').
