Surrey Docks Farm
Surrey Docks Farm

Across the Thames from the toil of Canary Wharf, the charming little Surrey Docks Farm spreads over 2.2 acres. One of London’s first city farms, it was established in the late ’70s when locals began to grow and harvest their own produce.

Resident animals range from tiny buzzing bees, big clattering cattle and everything in between. Kiera is a sassy miniature Shetland pony who sounds as though she has a touch of small-person syndrome.

The farm boasts a manner of seasonal root and climbing veggies. Plenty of scrummy fresh produce is on sale in the farm shop.

What’s not to like about walking a donkey along the Thames path across the river from the financial district? There are also ceramic lessons, beekeeping classes and an onsite forge where Kevin the blacksmith runs metalworking taster sessions. Miriam Bouteba

This small farm is a real haven of nature in the city. It's a bit of a walk from either Rotherhithe or Canada Water station but is doable. I'd recommend the C10 bus to take you right there.

It's a small site but great if you want to stroke or feed all of the classic farmyard animals. You often see kids taking Shetland ponies for walks near the farm. It's fab for youngsters.

It also has a shop where you can buy farm produce...eggs and the like.

And the cafe is def worth a visit. Amazing yummy food :)

Across the water from Canary Wharf you don't expect to find this charm little farm. It's a welcome relief from the buzz of the city. It's well worth a visit and can't be reach either by ferry from Canary Wharf or via bus from Canada Water station. Don't forget to visit the cafe which offers us host of delicious treats.

Amazing resource for the local community. Lots of different animals, great social clubs etc, farm produce and a cafe!

It's not just the animals and conservation that goes on in the farm, but also gorgeous Sunday roasts in the cafe, the Christmas donkey rides and santa grotto, the home made produce fairs, the crafts lessons and massage sessions.... Plus the only place in London to have lessons in a full blown working smithy. And all that with the Thames and Canary Wharf as backdrop.

A fantastic place to visit - children not compulsory! Ducks, rabbits, cows, pigs, ferrets, sheep and goats will all bring a little joy to the dullest of days.

Lovely farm by the River Thames. With different animals that children can feed... there is also a caf and above all... there is no entry fee.
Can go for a walk in the area either by the river or in the park. Walking distance fron Rotherhite Overground; Canada Water tube Station (Jubilee & Overground) or by bus C10 & 381

If the day ( or your mind :-) is grey and dreary one visit to this oasis of calm and peace overlooking Canary Wharf brightens up the gloomiest of days!Perfect for kids but if you would like to stay connected to your inner child then this is the place for you.

Great if you like animals (children), and great if you like good food (me)!

Fantastic local farm in Rotherhithe, Southwark (not Tower Hamlets). Lots to see. Great animal experiences. Lovely little shop. All watched over by lovely chatty staff and volunteers. A great place for children, families, couples, singles - Everyone! New cafe operator serves up some lovely specials, chatter cakes and coffee in a delightful farmland setting. Bliss!

A city farm in London with lots of community involvement, what a splendid place! long may it continue. Check out Surrey Docks farm website lots of things going on .

This is a fantastic place to visit. I live nearby and regularly go there for the great cafe and to see the animals. They also offer interesting workshops sometimes. I did a one day introduction to bee-keeping which was brilliant.

This City Farm feels like an actual farm and not a mini zoo like some of the others. They do great things for people with learning disabilities too! Great place.

Fantastic - realy good cafe by the river and a fun day out for the kiddies.
