Wimbledon Common
Of Merton's many green spaces, Wimbledon Common (the stamping ground of Elisabeth Beresford's loveable eco-warriors The Wombles) offers 1,140 acres of woodland, including its own windmill and golf club. It has also proved hugely popular with fungi foragers, although recently there has been a clampdown on wild mushroom picking.

Wimbledon Common is huge. It's a lovely destination for picnics, walks, cycles, golf, a trip to the Windmill Pub and a weekend nature ramble. I've started cycling here from Streatham which is a good 40 minute loop with a challenging hill climb through Southfields and Wimbledon Village. Make time for a relaxing summer afternoon here.
