Did you know that you can bring your own Doritos to street-food spots all over Manchester and from just £5 they’ll load them up with epic toppings? Yep, it’s the return of Doritos Loaded – and it’s bigger than ever, thanks to the arrival of Doritos Loaded Month.

If you’re unfamiliar with the epic casual dining phenomenon then it couldn’t be simpler. From May 23 to June 28, you can BYOD – that’s bring your own Doritos, of course – to a series of Manchester’s hippest street food spots. Give the bag and £5 to the vendor and they’ll rip it open and slather your bag of the iconic corn chips with a special topping. A snack hack, if you will!

We’re talking brisket, we’re talking pulled pork, we’re talking chicken gyros, all from some of some of Manchester’s best independent street-food outlets – a serious boost of credibility to your Doritos, but only to those in the know. Check out the below list for just some of the participating hotspots. Get ready for bold and delicious flavour combinations to share with mates.

Ornella’s Kitchen, Freight Island

Open air food hall Freight Island started in an old railway station in 2020, a response to the challenges of that summer. Unsurprisingly, it was a huge hit, and the team have returned every summer since, with outlets now open in London and Newcastle. Pasta-deli Ornella’s Kitchen is one of its mainstays, and for £5 it’ll slather your Doritos in slow-cooked beef brisket, crispy onions and two (yes, two) types of indulgently melting cheese: provolone and parmesan.

Mia's Arepas, Freight Island

Mia’s Arepas takes its name from its signature dish the arepa, a gluten-free Colombian/Venezuelan flatbread that’s stuffed with a wide variety of delicious toppings, from hearty meat to virtuously vegan combinations. Simply present your bag of Doritos and a fiver, and be rewarded with a topping of pulled pork, melted cheese and Guasacaca (that’s a traditional Venezuelan green sauce, for the uninitiated).

Mega Gyros, Freight Island

No need to guess what Mega Gyros serves: it’s generous helpings of Greek street food, with tender gyros at the heart of it but a bounty of other options besides, from flavoursome meat dishes (think: a Greek sausage wrap) to veggie small plates (like honey feta spring rolls). They’ll make your bag of Doritos mega – £5 gets you a topping of chicken gyros with onions, tomatoes, tzatziki and parsley. Delicious.

Nell’s Kitchen, Freight Island

Nell’s Kitchen is a charmingly eccentric pizza joint that goes its own way with a series of distinctive pies: see the pepperoni, chilli honey and ‘nduja as well as the roast pineapple and ham, which puts to the sword people who still moan about Hawaiians. Present your bag of Doritos to be ‘pizzafied’ with a topping that includes lashings of tomato sauce, mozzarella, double pepperoni, 'nduja, chilli and a generous squirt of honey too.
