Gladstone Park is a rolling open space of 97 acres in Brent with a sweeping panorama of London laid out to the south. At the northern end of the park there is a tiny family-run café, tucked away in a courtyard in the old stable buildings. On our visit the concise menu featured plump roast sausages with honey mustard glaze and a duck egg and wilted spinach salad.

Venue name: Karmarama
Address: The Stables Courtyard
Cross street: Dollis Hill Lane
Opening hours: Open 11am-4.30pm Thur-Sun
Transport: Tube: Dollis Hill tube

Grace I

Finally--a cafe in a park that had years of debate of what to put there when the original Dollis Hill House (where Mark Twain once stayed) burnt down (at least twice). After endless community forums about whether to put a pub, bar or restaurant in the House's place, with no agreement, the users of this wonderful park finally found this cafe in place. It's a great meeting place for the community, and the staff are very friendly and eager to please patrons. The cakes and coffee drinks are especially good, and you can walk off the calories by going through the lovely enclosed garden next door. If only they would increase their opening hours and expand a bit!
