Maltby Street Market
Time Out says
Spread out along Bermondsey’s Ropewalk alley, between the railway arches and the LASSCO salvage warehouse, this heaving strip of a market first started taking shape in 2009. Back then, it was just coffee kings Monmouth cupping up for a couple of hours every Saturday; now, it’s a proper institution, and the main pretender to Borough Market’s crown. Street food, booze and produce of every shape abounds, emptying the wallets of tourists and locals alike. African Volcano does a roaring trade with its explosive dishes fired up with Mozambique peri-peri sauces and marinades, but also check out The Cheese Truck, Comptoir Gourmand, Devi’s, Gyoza Guys and Waffle On. Open on Saturday (10am-5pm) and Sunday (11am-4pm). Tip: if you fancy a sit-down lunch with some tip-top organic wines, head to cult favourite 40 Maltby Street underneath the arches.
