Well Street Pizza

Time Out says

Tucked away in south Hackney, this pizzeria-come-underground bar serves up classic sourdough pizzas from their very own Neapolitan wood-fired oven. Options range from simple margheritas to the ‘Collina’, a pizza topped with Tuscan sausage, pepperoni, 'nduja, salami, tomato and fior di latte mozzarella.

If a slice of something isn’t taking your fancy, there’s more than just pizza up for grabs. Pasta also features on the menu alongside a bunch of fresh salads. There's also a decent-looking selection of craft beers up for grabs, too.

Three nights a week Well Street Pizza also transforms their underground space into a basement bar. Might be good for dancing off all those calories you've just wolfed down?

Last night I really wanted to eat healthy, low carbs yada yada yada… but instead I sneakily went into Well Street Pizza- which was full of screaming kids by the way.. but clearly my desire for pizza surpassed it all, because I sat down and ordered Buffalina. Beauty showed up , what seemed like, only 5 min later and…it was to die for. Dough was slightly burned on edges and smelled like pizza is supposed to (hard to explain, but if you watched Ugly Delicious's episode Pizza on Netflix, you might know what I’m talking about). Base was thin, sauce was full of flavour..... and each table comes equipped with Chilli these guys know what’s good. I wanted to save half of pizza for my friend, but I couldn’t.. I inhaled it whole. Oops.

Having lived in East London for a few years now, I've sampled quite a number of sourdough-based pizzas. For some reasons these type of pie shops a-plenty the East London scene. Hipsters love sourdough. And so do I.

Although Franca Manca may forever hold the throne of sourdough pizza, Well Street Pizza definitely tastes of royalty.

So simple, but a magherita with proscuitto and rocket was absolutely delicious. Not too saucy, not too cheesy, and a perfect hint of garlic. The sourdough based was again, delicious, perfectly dough-y and soft. AND (as if it could get better) they deliver to the pub I happen to be sat at down the road (The Gun).

Don't want to brag, but I've pretty much eaten every pizza in London. I used to have a couple of favourites, but let's face it - all sourdough with buffalo mozzarella pretty much tastes the same. At least that's what I used to think before Well Street Pizza. The dough is brilliant - there's something tangy in it, which just goes so well with smooth cheese and fresh tomato sauce. They have a 2-4-£5 deal on Mondays and Tuesdays if you decide to eat in, and there's a wide variety of drinks and alcohol if you're feeling thirsty.

Overall - best pizza in east London. Had it probably 50+ times and it's delicious every time.
