By now, juicing has been all the rage for quite a few years. After all, why would you eat loads of fruit and veg as individual pieces when you can get almost all the same nutrients by slurping ‘em all down? It’s a much easier, convenient way to be healthy. So easy, you don’t even need teeth.

The main downside of years of juice mayhem, however, is that there’s now a frankly terrifying range of juicers on the market. The prices range enormously (from around £20 to well over £600) and there are dozens of different kinds, all intended to do different things with different types of fruit and vegetables.

Slow juicers, cold press juicers, masticating juicers, centrifugal juicers. Scanning through lists and online shops, the lingo alone can be overwhelming. What on earth does it all mean? Lucky for you, we’re here to lend a hand. We’ve hacked our way through the juicer jungle to determine which ones are the best. Here’s our guide to 10 of the finest juicers around.

The best juicers

This one’s for when you just need to get the job done. Just juice, no frills. AAUU’s 800 watt juicer is uncomplicated and effective, with dual speed for hard and soft fruit and veg, and a pretty sizeable 75mm chute – which is plenty big enough for you to shove stuff in. The AAUU is safe, too, due to its huge, locking lever that makes you feel like you’re clamping the juice down tight in a vault. The stainless steel main blade is corrosion resistant and because the whole thing almost entirely deconstructs, it’s supremely easy to clean. As simple, effective and reliable as juicers get.

Slow juicing. You’re either already hearing about it everywhere, or you soon will be. Essentially, it’s all about juicing but, as you may have guessed, slowly, so that there is less friction and heat (it’s also sometimes known as ‘cold press’ juicing). In theory, this means that yer juice is much more nutritious. Naturally, it’s a more complicated process and so the machines are a little more expensive, but here’s a very solid slow juicer by Jocuu that’s easily cleanable and comes with a five-year guarantee. Go on, give slow a go.

When it comes to specialised juicers, what you lose in usability, you gain in expertise. This Princess Electric Citrus Juicer Master is purposefully designed to grind down those oranges, grapefruits, lemons and limes in the most efficient, effective manner possible. Equipped with pulp filter, stainless steel blades and an aluminium arm that gives you the pleasure of manually mashing down those citrus fruits, it’s really one of the best of its kind. Not only is the Princess one of Amazon’s bestsellers, it also has a vastly impressive four-and-a-half star average customer rating.

Some might say that making sure people know that you juice is almost as important as the actual juicing. We joke, but having an aesthetically-pleasing juicer is definitely important. If good looks are high on your list of priorities and you want a sleek and fashionable juicer to show off to your mates, the Alessi Plissé Electric Citrus-Squeezer is your perfect match. I mean, just look at it. The Plissé is just such an elegant piece of design, but, being also both practical and easy to clean, it’s more than just a pretty face.

The Terminator of juicers, this Braun J700 Spin Juicer looks like an absolute machine – and it really is one. This beauty can blast through a litre of juice in under a minute, processing fruits and vegetables whole, unskinned and with pips and stalks. Combining German efficiency (and a whopping 1000W motor) with included innovative accessories like a mesh sieve, a foam separator and an anti-drip system, the Braun one of the most powerful and usable juicers out there. You’ll be thankful to know that it also comes with a four-way safety system, so all that power is always well under control.

Not everyone has loads of space in their kitchen for an enormous, all-guns-blazing mega-juicer. So here’s an alternative. With its compact design and simple cylindrical shape, the Phillips Viva Collection Centrifugal Juicer won’t take up too much space and should easily tuck away into a corner of the countertop or a cabinet. It’s pretty stylish too, and despite its smaller stature, the Viva makes great juice, has a very decent 500ml capacity, and can apparently be cleaned easily in under a minute.

Are you looking to make your juice early in the morning, before everyone else has dragged themselves out of bed? Here’s one to make sure you don’t end up the least popular person in the household. The Omega 8006 Nutrition Centre is a particularly quiet juicer. As a general rule, slow juicers are usually pretty quiet, but this one is extra discreet. It also just happens to be one of the highest rated products on Juicers.co.uk, a masterpiece of juicing design with an automatic pulp removal mechanism. Sure, this Omega is on the spenny side of things, but that’s the price you pay for not to waking up any co-inhabitants in the ungodly hours.

While cheap blenders are relatively easy to find, cheap juicers are harder to come by (the difference between the two is that with blenders you end up with everything, whereas juicers leave mostly the juice). If you’re on a tight budget, little citrus blasters like this one from Luukmonde work just fine. They’re a little more hands-on, as you have to hold the half-cut of citrus on the cone as it spins, but the simplicity of it all means it’s reliable and easy to clean. The Luukmonde’s container can hold 1.2L of juice and all the detachable parts are dishwasher safe. The best bit? It’s all yours for under 30 quid.

It’s not something many of us think about often, but what is the future of juicing? I know, I know, how can you complicate the process of turning something into mush – but you certainly can, and the Tribest Green Star Elite is already there. Offering a three-stage slow juicing process designed to extract the maximum amount of nutrients, its gears contain special bio ceramic magnets that limit oxidisation and extend the juice’s shelf-life. It’s also quiet and sleek, and says it can juice pretty much anything. The Green Star Elite is top of the range, but be warned: it comes with a very, very hefty £600 (!) price tag.

In this age of convenience, it’s almost assumed that a juicer has to be electric. But what if it wasn’t? Well, there’s this nifty little gadget available from Shein that takes things back to basics.  As you’d expect, it’s pretty simple: you chop up the bits of fruit that you want to juice, then you lop it all in the juicer and crush with a lever. While Shein’s juicer might not be the most convenient thing for anyone in a hurry or needing to make large quantities of juice, it’s a cute, very child-safe alternative.
