This sporting venue, home to the handball, modern pentathlon fencing and goalball events during the 2012 Olympic Games, can seat up to 7,500 spectators. The building, which was the first of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park venues to open to the public, gets its name from its arresting exterior appearance; the sustainable design is clad in copper, which will develop a rich colour as it ages. The Copperbox is equipped to host a range of sports including basketball, wheelchair basketball, handball, volleyball, netball, fencing, badminton and gymnastics. It is now home to a number of resident clubs including the London Lions Basketball Team (book tickets for their fixtures here). The venue is also open to the public who can use the gym facilities, take part in exercise classes, including yoga, pilates and box fit, and visit the café.

A friend and I recently visited Copperbox to see the London Lions play Bristol for a basketball game. The atmosphere was fun and lively, it was slightly difficult to find - there weren't a huge amount of signs, and the Olympic park was pretty dark by this time. But overall - within walking distance of Stratford Westfield Shopping Centre and station, so conveniently located. I really enjoyed the game, and would definitely return!

I came to see 2016's Sport Relief programme being filmed here and was pleasantly surprised by the sheer scale of the inside. It's impossible to tell from the outside how large the main arena is and I imagine the atmosphere would be absolutely incredible at a sports game. Even with a relatively small studio audience the space was transformed into something that just came alive. The rest of the venue is well equipped with food facilities, improving the experience as a spectator.

I enjoyed a great day out watching the London Lions play. Thanks to timeout I also got to meet all of them after the game in the vip room and now cant wait to see them again! Would very much recommend everyone getting a time out card to enjoy opportunities such as these!
