KPop Demon Hunters songwriter (yes, he co-wrote Golden) Mark Sonnenblick’s intimate musical three-hander about illicit gay love in ’60s New York scored decent reviews when it debuted off-Broadway some eight years ago. Still, the big pull of its London premiere is clearly the casting: in quite the coup David Cromer’s Menier production has bagged Ban Platt – best known as the original Broadway star of Dear Evan Hansen – as the lead. The story follows Trevor and Arthur, two lovers in 1965 NYC who celebrate their illicit romance via secret cabaret act called Midnight in which they serenade each other with love songs. Gregor Milne and Barry James co-star.
