Purpose

Three generations of a revered African-American political dynasty are snowed in together in this explosive drama from provocative Black playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, which won the 2025 Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize for best play. In the latest coup for the Royal Court, the entire original production from Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company – directed by the great Phylicia Rashad – will transfer wholesale with just a single casting change. Kalyne Coleman will join the original Broadway company Alana Arenas, Glenn Davis, Jon Michael Hill, Harry Lennix, and LaTanya Richardson Jackson.
