Of course a new play from V – formerly known as Eve Ensler – is worth paying attention to. She did, after all, pen the seminal work of ’90s feminism The Vagina Monologues. And The Apology is a formidable and fascinating new work for the Royal Court to bag as a world premiere: it’s Ensler’s imagining of a conversation with her late father (played by Tobias Menzies) who abused her as a child. What makes this a must watch is the fact it’s directed by Simon McBurney for his visionary theatre company Complicité – expect it to be formally groundbreaking as well as emotionally devastating.
